This is Adolfo Perez Esquivel and he’s a Nobel Peace Prize winner. I met him today, shook hands with him and he listened through his interpreter as to what we had to say.
In the 80s he was tortured for speaking out on the disappearances of thousands of people who were captured and tortured by the dictatorship at that time. He told us of his experiences of something called the “tunnel” which was a cramped, dark room where he would spend most of his day. He said that if the door was ever opened, he would see the light shine onto the dirty walls and the graffiti there. On one of the walls was a patch of dried blood with “god does not kill” marked into it. I felt pretty humbled to be in the same room as a guy who changed lives, such a smiley, happy 80 year old :D
